How My Child’s Food Allergy was Cured Naturally

Let’s start off by going through the steps that led us to ultimately learning how to naturally cure my son’s egg allergy. We started giving my son, Owen, solid foods around 6 months. We would just give him little bits of what we were eating. He was also breastfed, and never had any reaction to the foods that I would eat.

When he was about 7 months old, we were at a family party and he was eating little bites of tons of different foods. That night, he began vomiting and was sick for about 2 hours. The next day he got a rash around his mouth. We assumed that he was sick with a virus.

Four days later, I gave him about 10 bites of scrambled egg. An hour and a half after that, he again had the same vomiting episode- he was sick for about 2 hours and then got a swollen eye and a rash around his mouth. After happening a second time, we then were highly suspecting that he was getting sick from a food allergy.

There began our journey following the Western medicine approach to food allergies. We started by seeing a pediatrician who referred us to an allergist. At the allergist office, they started with skin testing. We definitely wanted to test eggs because he had a reaction shortly after eating the eggs, but were unsure what might have caused the reaction the first time. He had eaten so many different foods the day that the first reaction occurred, but he did eat a nut butter that day.

We did the skin testing for eggs, all the nuts and seeds that were part of Nutzo butter (what he had eaten the first day he got sick), and dairy. The skin test came back positive for only egg yolk and egg white. I do want to note, however, that with the skin testing they do a histamine control. The histamine is supposed to come back positive in everyone. If it comes back negative, the test is considered invalid. His histamine test came back negative. They redid the histamine, and then it came back positive.

Since everything else came back negative, the allergist told us to reintroduce the nuts and seeds again.

Regarding the egg allergy, the next step is to do an in-office baked egg challenge. Basically, you make muffins at home where the eggs will be cooked well. Baking the eggs for an extended period of time changes the protein and often is tolerated better by those who have an allergy, compared to lightly cooked eggs like scrambled eggs or pancakes. To do this challenge, my son (who is about 9 months old at this point) is supposed to eat an entire muffin. If he eats the entire muffin, sits there after for 2 hours and doesn’t have a reaction, he would then be cleared to eat baked egg.

We show up bright and early to begin this baked egg challenge. Just a note, 9 month olds don’t like muffins. And they definitely don’t like eating an entire muffin. It was such a struggle getting Owen to eat this muffin, and I would have to stick little pieces of the muffin onto fruit to get him to eat it. He was supposed to eat 1/8 of the muffin, then wait 15 minutes to see if there was a reaction. Then eat 1/4 of the muffin, wait 15 minutes, and so on.

They allow you 3 hours to complete the challenge, and then cut you off. In that 3 hour timeframe, Owen was able to eat half of the muffin (which felt like a huge accomplishment to me)! He then had to sit there for 2 hours to wait and see if he had a reaction. He never had a reaction at the office. (About 4 hours later when we were at home, he got 2 small hives, but otherwise acted fine and unbothered.)

Because he had only eaten half of the muffin, they couldn’t clear him to be able to eat baked egg. The recommendation was to continue eating half a muffin 3 times a week. This solution didn’t sit well with me. First of all, it was an incredible struggle and took 3 hours to get him to eat half a muffin. Secondly, my 9 month old is eating very little solid food. Do I really want to fill his stomach up with a muffin 3 times a week, instead of nutrient-dense food? So, I didn’t give him the muffin at home and knew there had to be another way.

Let’s get back to discussing how Owen only tested positive for the egg allergy, and was told to resume eating nuts and seeds. We did just that- I gave him a few bites of the Nutzo butter again. Two hours later, he again had the vomiting episodes. Imagine the frustration- taking my son in to the doctor because something was making him sick, being told it was NEGATIVE and to give him that food, and he gets sick AGAIN. I messaged the allergist and told her what happened, and she then ordered blood work for all the nuts and seeds that are in Nutzo butter, as well as doing blood work for the egg allergy to see what level he was at. Surprise, surprise- he tested positive on the blood work for egg allergy and cashew allergy!

They had tested cashews on the skin test, and it came back negative. Remember where I discussed how the histamine test (the one that is supposed to come back positive) was negative the first time? If the one that is supposed to test positive even comes back negative, how can a negative test for all the other allergens be trusted? Clearly, that test was wrong.

I’m not saying this to call out anyone in particular. I know that most healthcare workers care about their patients and truly want to help. This example is more so to show the importance of you being the one in control of your and your family’s healthcare decisions. No one will care about your family’s health more than you. When a mistake happens, like being told that Owen isn’t allergic to cashews and then him getting sick from eating them, the doctor doesn’t have to worry about it. It’s you and your family who have to pay the price. The moral of this small rant is that it is easy for someone else to tell you what to do- but when reactions happen, YOU are the one who deals with it day in and day out, not the doctor.

Now we can get to the good stuff- how we cure this thing!

I had been taking Owen to see a local chiropractor occasionally, especially as he was hitting new milestones. I had mentioned the food allergy issue to her, and she told me about a chiropractor who cures food allergies naturally. She told me that it sounds crazy, and you need to have an open mind to consider it. However, she said that she has sent over 10 patients to this chiropractor, and all of them have been cured of their food allergies. Her own daughter has Celiac’s disease and can now eat flour after doing this therapy!

I was intrigued but skeptical. The therapy is called Natural Allergy Elimination Technique (NAET). I researched more about it, and there are some actual real studies showing the efficacy of it. After a couple months, I was ready to give it a try. It took about a month to get an appointment.

We show up to the appointment, thinking this chiropractor was going to be some voodoo weirdo. Quite the opposite- he was such a normal guy who is primarily just a chiropractor. He doesn’t even advertise NAET, but he gets so many patients referred to him for it. He told us, “this is the weirdest thing ever. I know it sounds crazy. But it works time and time again”.

The first appointment starts with testing for the allergies. He has a box full of small glass vials, and in each vial is the protein of a different allergen. So there will be a vial for eggs, dairy, peanut, sunflower seed, etc.

It gets even weirder. Because Owen is a baby, he can’t do the test on Owen. He has to do the test on me while I am touching Owen’s skin. Think of it this way- if you and I were holding hands and I got electrocuted, the shock would transfer to you because we are holding hands.

So I sat on the table and put my hand on Owen’s bare stomach. I then had to extend one arm straight out to the side and hold it firmly. The chiropractor would hand me a vial, I would hold it to Owen’s stomach with my hand also touching his stomach, and the chiropractor would very gently press down on my raised arm. He pressed so gently- much more gently than you would use to flip off a light switch. If my arm stayed strong, that meant there was no reaction or allergy to what was in that vial. If my arm weakened and fell a little, it meant that there was a reaction.

The chiropractor continued giving me a new vial, would press my arm, nothing happened, next vial, press my arm, etc. I wasn’t looking at the label on the vials so I didn’t know what he was testing each time. We went through probably 10 vials and nothing was happening, and I was starting to lose hope thinking that this therapy wasn’t going to work for us.

He gives us another vial, presses on my arm, and my arm weakens significantly. He then says, “that vial was egg.” I. WAS. SHOOK. It’s one of those situations that you might have to experience to actually believe it. My husband was there as well, and he was also mind-blown.

He continued testing the different vials, and Owen ended up also testing positive for cashew and sunflower seeds. (I don’t think he had ever eaten sunflower seeds.)

The chiropractor said that he can address one allergy at a time, so we started with egg. I held the egg vial against Owen’s skin, while the chiropractor did a quick adjustment on my back, including having me do some different breathing patterns. He then said that the vials had to touch Owen’s skin for 20 minutes. After the 20 minutes, he retested with the egg vial and my arm remained strong. He said to avoid egg for 24 hours, and then can begin introducing it slowly. He recommended to rub egg around the mouth and see if there is any reaction before having him eat the egg.

We avoided egg the following day, and after that rubbed egg around his mouth. No reaction. The next day, I gave him one bite of scrambled egg. The day after, I gave him two bites of scrambled egg. We continued that pattern until we got to about 10 bites of egg. He has never had a reaction to eggs since receiving this therapy. He now eats scrambled eggs every morning and has no negative effects.

We did end up going back for two more appointments to address the cashew and sunflower seed allergies. To be honest, I have been busy and haven’t given Owen cashews or sunflower seeds to test it. I will update this post when I do to let you know if he had any reaction.

To say I am mind-blown is an understatement. With allergies being SO prevalent, this information needs to be shouted from the rooftops! The chiropractor said that he also does this therapy for seasonal allergies.

If you live in the Cleveland area and want to know the chiropractor I went to, send me a message on Instagram @_naturaleah_and we can chat!

I hope this information can help you or your loved ones. This experience has been such a great reminder to me of God’s healing abilities, and that He gives us what we need through nature, nutrition, and our surroundings. True health is rarely found in a pill or syringe.
