Low Toxin Product List
If you flip over the ingredient list on most household and personal care products (household cleaner, laundry detergent, perfume, candles, body lotion, deodorant, body wash, face wash, etc.) you will likely see “parfum” or “fragrance” listed on the bottle. “Fragrance” is a loophole term where companies are allowed to choose from a list of over 3,000 chemicals, add as many of them to their product as they want, and simply add “fragrance” to the ingredient list instead of listing all of the actual chemicals they used. Many of these 3,000 chemicals wreak havoc on hormonal and overall health. In fact, 1 in 20 of these chemicals earned a “high” hazard score, and 1 in 6 earned a “moderate” hazard score, according to the Environment Working Group (EWG). Many of these chemicals are phthalates, which are known to be strong hormone disruptors and have been linked to reproductive system birth defects in baby boys. When we see “fragrance” listed on the ingredient list, we have no idea how many of these chemicals we are lathering onto our bodies and breathing into our lungs.
Here is a list of some of my personal favorite low-toxin household and personal care products. All of these products are what I and/or my family uses and loves. I will continue updating and revising this list as I find new favorites.

Household cleaner
Our household cleaners touch most surfaces of our home, and make up a large portion of the air quality in our homes. Thieves household cleaner is my go-to. It is plant-based and does not contain toxins or artificial fragrance. This cleaner is also the only cleaner I use for my entire house. I use it to clean the bathroom, windows, granite countertops, wood floors- EVERYTHING. The bottle comes as a concentrate and lasts forever. I put 2 oz of thieves cleaner into a 16 oz spray bottle, and fill the rest with water. Ps. It also smells like Christmas :)
Laundry
Laundry products are some of the most toxic products found in many homes. Traditional laundry products are filled with artificial fragrance. We wash our clothes in the detergent, and our clothes sit on our skin all day and night long. Switching to a nontoxic detergent is one of the first swaps I would recommend making! Instead of dryer sheets, you can use wool dryer balls with a couple drops of essential oils. My favorite essential oils to add to the laundry are purification (smells very fresh and clean) or lavender. I also use the Thieves dish soap as a stain remover.

Dish soap
The Thieves dish soap works wonderfully. This soap is more on the pricey side, so I now reserve it as a stain remover for clothes. I use Rosey dish soap from Thrive Market.

Dishwasher Pods
Finding low-toxin dishwasher pods or detergent that works well has been difficult! I have tried so many, and this one works great with no streaks left behind.
Ecover Dishwasher Pods (also available on Thrive Market)
Body Lotion
Regarding skincare, body lotion is the first product I would recommend switching. We put lotion all over our bodies and let it sink into the skin (our bodies’ largest organ)!
Lavender Lotion (also available in other scents)
Hand Soap
I used to looove me a Bath & Body Works soap, but unfortunately they had to go once I learned about the harms of artificial fragrance. I also ditched the antibacterial hand soap. Soap works by washing away the germs. Using an antibacterial hand soap is actually detrimental to the immune system by killing off lots of the good bacteria on our skin. It can also lead to more bacterial resistance, which is already a big problem because of the overuse of antibiotics.
The luscious lemon hand soap is a bright, springy, lemony scent. The Thieves hand soap is a fall, cinnamony, Christmas-like scent. I do dilute these soaps with about 75% soap and 25% water to stretch the soap.

Skincare
I know skincare is so personal and depends on skin type, but these products are what I have used for a couple years and absolutely love!
Face Cleanser
I use only the smallest amount of this cleanser, and one bottle lasts me over a year. It is a creamy, light cleanser that does not dry my skin out.
Facial Exfoliator
Satin Mint Facial Scrub gently exfoliates the skin with a clean, minty feel. I use this scrub a couple times a week.
Face Moisturizer
Bloom Brightening Lotion (Daytime Moisturizer) is light-weight and does not leave my skin feeling oily.
Bloom Brightening Cream (Nighttime Moisturizer) is thicker but absorbs nicely without leaving a greasy look or feeling.
CBD Beauty Boost helps to promote an even skin tone and reduce wrinkles and fine lines. At nighttime, I mix a couple drops of Beauty Boost with the Bloom Brightening Cream and apply to my face.
Deodorant
Putting aluminum under our arms where we have lots of lymph nodes is not the best for our health. I have tried TONS of natural deodorants. My favorite one, that I have been using for years, is Primally Pure’s charcoal deodorant. It works better than any other natural deodorant I have ever tried.
My husband is more sensitive to the baking soda in some natural deodorants, and will get rashes from them. He likes Earthley’s deodorant because it works well without the baking soda.
Shampoo & Conditioner
To be honest, shampoo is the one item that I am still struggling with in finding a natural solution that I love! My husband uses and likes the Acure shampoo, and I use Acure conditioner. I am not a person who is picky with hair care. They do the job and smell good! The conditioner is very moisturizing.
Acure Shampoo & Conditioner (also available on Thrive Market)
Dry Shampoo
Acure dry shampoo works great! It is a white powder, so you will have to work it into your hair if you have dark hair. Tip- applying dry shampoo at nighttime works much better for absorbing oil rather than waiting until the morning! Use it BEFORE your hair is greasy and it works much better. By applying the night before, it also gives more time to absorb so you don’t notice the white residue.
Toothpaste
I avoid toothpaste with fluoride, because fluoride is a known neurotoxin. I like Boka toothpaste because it contains hydroxyapatite, which helps remineralize tooth enamel.
Body Wash
Alevia is a nontoxic, prebiotic soap that feeds the microbiome on the skin to bring the skin back into balance. There are countless testimonies that this soap has helped relieve skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. This body wash can also be used for baby soap and shampoo.
Perfume / Air Freshener
Essential oils are my go-to for perfume and making my house smell amazing!
The most cost-effective way to get started with a diffuser and a few different essential oils is by grabbing a starter kit. This starter kit comes with a beautiful diffuser, a few essential oil bottles, and a couple rollers.
If you are more interested in individual oils, my recommendations for perfume include:
Valor- a deep, sweet, slightly fruity scent
Stress Away- vanilla/lime scent, smells like a beach getaway
Joy- strong floral scent
A few of my favorites for diffusing (among many other purposes) are:
Thieves- a mixture of cinnamon, clove, lemon, rosemary, and eucalyptus. This blend is anti-germ- I diffuse it regularly, especially in the fall and winter!
If you have any other specific requests or interests in which essential oils may be a good fit for you, please reach out to me on Instagram @_naturaleah_ and I can provide more individual suggestions!
I will keep updating this list as I come across new products that I love. Remember, sustainable lifestyle changes happen gradually. It is unrealistic to switch over all of your products overnight. Once one item runs out, replace it with something a little less toxic. Hope this helps!
